ARACHNOPHOBES BEWARE! I think it goes without saying that this site will have bugs and spiders, but do not proceed if you don't like spiders, particularly big hairy tarantulas! (she's cute though, I promise!!)

I know how bad it looks to be picking favorites between two brothers, but before adopting our cats me and my mom had very much decided that Antasma was my cat, and Aragorn was hers. 'Tas is very much mine, I am his, and he is my favorite in this whole wide world. I know how boring it may be to read someone's manifesto for one's cat, because we all cherish our cats. I want this space to do so because it just feels great and wholesome. -So here is my love letter to my cat. Antasma, named after a villain from Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, because I was 16 and really into those things.

When I draw a caricature of Aragorn, I make him the serious and angry one. It's not that he has an angry personality, but he is one weird, standoffish cat that will only ever have things his own way. I respect it—he clearly knows what he's doing! The funny part is how these two brothers could not be more different, and I think me and my mom's personalities reflect upon them in the process.

Personality: This 'grumpy cat' is actually the sociable one. He's ballsy, he's not afraid to meet new people and he breaks the rules just because he can. Spitefully so, even; my mom can leave the room and he will get on the table because he knows I'm the one that doesn't yell at him for it.

Breed: Pinktoe tarantula (Avicularia avicularia)
Color: Metallic blue, brown, with pink toes!
This is my weird puppy-dog, Ruby. I like to call her a puppy because she got those huge, wet, beckoning eyes that look just like this emoji: 🥺 She looks so soft and fuzzy that I have even gotten the the biggest bug haters to admit that she is pretty adorable. I aquired Ruby through the bizarre scenario of having bred way too many Zophobas for my lizard -because obviously that was another weird special interest of mine at one point. First I wanted a frog, then I wanted a mantis. I realized quickly my heart wasn't strong enough for a centipede, and suddenly I was obsessed with the idea of a spider after learning about pinktoes. The toes are pink!!! You coulnd't get any better than that!!!

I'm not sure how old Ruby was when she arrived, but she was pretty damn tiny, about 4-5 cm across. She came home at March 2nd, so I can guess she was born in early 2018 or late 2017. She has now grown up with me and is now the size of my hand once all leggies are stretched long, which is 14-15 cm! And yes, she is named after my favorite gem Ruby from Steven Universe.

Personality: I've seen people ask if tarantulas have the capability to have a personality, or a distinct identity. My answer is no, but this answer does not stop me from apppreciating this animal and describing the general quirks that makes owning one so cool and special. I would describe it as owning a terrestrial fish. Since Avic avic's are arboreal you will see them more often than their terrestrial counterparts, though! She floats around, she has her nightly walks, and once she's ready to molt she builds her web. If she's happy and well fed she simply just sits around. Sometimes, at very rare occasions, she starts drumming her pedipalps against the glass, making a shocking amount of noise. This is her trying to attract a mate—but my poor lady shall remain a virgin!

Favorite activity: Sitting on the glass wall. Sweetheart I have given you an entire plant and numerous sticks, yet you are adamant to just sit on the wall instead!! Spiders just literally do not care about comfort.
